At Family Pet Hospital, we are seeking full-time Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians
to support our veterinarians and care for animals.
As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in comforting our patients and keeping our facility operating smoothly. As a Veterinary Assistant/Veterinary Technician, one of your most important responsibilities will be ensuring that all areas are kept clean and sanitary for both animals and humans. You’ll also assist the Veterinarian during exams and operations. This position is ideal for anyone who is organized, punctual, quick on their feet, and passionate about animal care. Responsibilities
- Ability to work weekends is a must!
- Processing routine lab work, including fecal tests, ear swabs, etc.
- Cleaning kennels and bathing animals as needed
- Cleaning examination rooms and tables and sanitizing equipment
- Restraining pets during vaccinations or examinations
- Soothing frighted, stressed, or upset patients
- Administering medications as prescribed by the Veterinarian (mixing with food, etc.)
- Observing animals’ health conditions and behavior and reporting to the Veterinarian
- Assisting during emergencies
- Handling administrative duties, including calling patients into the examination room, scheduling appointments, etc.
- Keeping accurate logs and records
- Explaining issues (lack of appointments, insurance problems, etc.) and reassuring clients that their beloved pets are being cared for
- Providing healthcare and nutrition advice to pet owners
Requirements and Skills
- One-year experience as a Veterinary Technician/Assistant or in a similar role working with animals
- Exceptional communication skills
- Caring, patient personality
- Comfortable around animals, including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.
- Ability to listen to and follow instructions correctly
- Ability to record and maintain accurate medical notes
- Physically able to meet the job's demands (lifting up to 40 pounds, working on your feet, etc.)
- Available to work in emergencies on occasion
- Knowledge of EVet software is a plus
Pay
$13.00 - $17.00 per hour
